After seeing success last season, the Greene County Rams boys and girls cross country teams will look to repeat that.
Last year, the Ram boys finished eighth overall at the state qualifying meet, so they missed out on state as a team. However, Noah Hinote finished 18th overall and earned a spot at the state meet as an individual. He finished 87th, which looks to serve as motivation for the other runners.
“We had a little taste of success last year. The boys were in the top half of most of the meets we were in, and then having Noah Hinote make it to state, I think that is a big boost for the kids,” head coach Jeff Lamoureux said.
Last season, the girls’ team had only four on the roster, which meant they didn’t have enough girls to score at meets. This season will be different, as seven girls are currently on the roster, which is a positive development.
“They are going in the right direction. They are working really hard; we have had some really nice practices so far this year. We had some pretty good participation in the summer workout program,” Lamoureux said.
Lamoureux believes there should be positive results as the season wears on for both teams, with the overall goal of making it to the state meet.
The season is scheduled to begin for both Rams cross country teams on Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Gowrie Municipal Golf Course in Gowrie, with the boys getting started at 5 pm and the girls set for 5:40 pm.
